SoNo's Loews Theater
Bringing Back Loews Theater on Main PDF Print E-mail

Architect Thomas Lamb is credited as the architect of 166 theaters (List) around the world including the Loews’s theater here in SoNo.  As originally built, our Loew’s theater was one of Lamb's rare large theaters with all of its seats on one floor, in this case 2,485 at the time of opening in 1925. When New Rochelle was the center of the county's nightlife, it was in the midst of a popular strip of theaters, night clubs, and nightlife. Loew's eventually twinned the theatre before closing it in the 1970s. In 1987, it re-opened under RKO management In more recent times, it was converted and operated as the Palladium nightclub. There is now the opportunity to bring the structure back as a community theater. More on that to come
